The 2019 Toyota Camry has once and for all shaken off its image of being a somewhat pedestrian and safe mid-size sedan. The current generation has striking looks, superb handling, and a well-equipped interior. The Camry is offered in L, LE, SE, XSE, and XLE trim levels and with three engine options. Here are four of the Camry’s awesome features.

Exterior Styling

From the bold front-end styling with its deep lower grille, through the sleek aerodynamic profile, and to the sporty rear end and dramatic lighting layout, the Camry has head-turning looks. L trim features bi-LED automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, 16-inch steel wheels, color-keyed door handles and power door mirrors, and LED combination taillights.

LE models add 17-inch alloy wheels, while the SE has a sport grille, 18-inch black wheels, a color-keyed rear spoiler, and dual chrome exhaust tips. The XSE offers 19-inch wheels, heated mirrors with turn signals, touch-sensor door handles, and a dual exhaust with quad chrome tips. The top-of-the-range XLE features a bright metallic grille, and 18-inch silver wheels.

Power and Performance

Under the hood is a responsive 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. For the sportier XSE, the power is boosted to 206 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque.

If you want more power, the XSE and XLE have the option of a 3.5-liter V-6 producing 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. That’s more power than any of its turbocharged four-cylinder competitors. These engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

For the more frugal-minded, LE, SE, and XSE trims are offered with hybrid power. A 2.5-liter engine is linked to an electric motor to provide total system power of 208 horsepower. A continuously variable transmission transfers the power to the front wheels.

Driver Assist Features

Safety doesn’t take a back seat and all Camry trim levels come with standard Toyota Safety Sense. It includes dynamic radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beams. The XSE adds full-speed range adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning.

Interior Features

Inside the Camry, you’ll find a stylish, contemporary, and spacious cabin with plenty of room for five people. The roomy trunk has up to 15.1 cubic feet of cargo space and all but the L trim have 60/40 split folding rear seats to increase the capacity.

L models feature cloth upholstery, wood interior trim, air conditioning, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. To stay connected, the multimedia system has a 7-inch touch screen, smartphone integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, voice recognition, Bluetooth, and six-speaker audio.

The LE offers a power driver’s seat and satellite radio, while the SE has simulated leather upholstery and a leather-trimmed steering wheel. The XSE adds leather upholstery, a 7-inch multi-information display, ambient lighting, and an 8-inch touch screen. The XLE has unique luxury trim.
