With most people having hectic schedules nowadays it’s easy to forget that everyone needs to relax from time to time. A great way to do that is by finding a hobby and sticking to it, but the first step is always learning how to do it properly. Luckily, those living in and around Burien, Washington, have a multitude of classes where they can pick up the basics of their future hobby.

Whisk Cooking Classes

Cooking is one of those hobbies that are not only fun but also highly useful. If you want to dazzle your family or your friends with delicious and expertly served dishes, then Whisk is the perfect place for you to learn exactly how you should do it. Owners Don and Ann are a husband and wife duo who understand the need for a place that helps anyone who wishes to become a better cook.

All aspects of entertaining are covered, from choosing the right menu to properly serving meals and, of course, a vast variety of delicious meals that you can amaze your guests with. Courses vary from cooking fundamentals, where those who are new to the art of cooking can pick up the basics, to courses that teach how to cook international dishes, such as French, Italian, Mexican, or Thai cuisine. Other special courses include those that teach cooking without meat, making delicious sweets, and also special courses where kids aged 8 to 12 can be introduced to the fascinating world of cuisine.

Mimosas and Yoga at Columbia Tower Club

A short 10-mile drive north to Seattle will take you to this event which only happens a few times each year. The next edition will take place on May 18 at Columbia Tower Club and all visitors will be treated to a spectacular view from the top of the tower, tasty mimosa cocktails, and, a highly entertaining Yoga course. Attendees will be introduced to the wonders of Vinyasa Yoga, a style that brings many physical and mental benefits for any practitioner. So bring a mat, grab a glass, and enjoy the view.

Community Folk Arts Painting and Drawing Classes

Community Folk Arts is a local arts center that features the works of local artists but also provides art classes for anyone interested. If you’re interested in learning how to paint with acrylics, local artist Paul Illian’s course will set you on your way. A very useful and entertaining drawing course is also available, where beginners and intermediate artists can brush up on their skills by getting a better understanding of concepts such as perspective, composition, shading, or line work. If you feel that painting or drawing might be your next hobby, this is definitely the place to start.

No matter how busy everyone is, making time for fun hobbies is crucial to both physical and mental health. All you have to do is figure out what attracts you and what you feel you’d be good at, and then find a course that teaches you the basics.
